HIGH MOUNTAIN SINGERS
Traditional Blackfeet Music CD

An all star drumming group from the Blackfeet Reservation in northern Montana, the High Mountain Singers strive to carry the musical tradition of the Amskapi Pikuni (Southern Piegan) to all those who listen. The sixteen musical tracks on the CD feature two honor songs and a variety of traditional dance songs including Chicken Dance, Grass Dance, Old Style Straight, and Fast and Fancy.

Produced by Jack Gladstone, this CD also features spoken word introductions in Blackfeet (Siksika) and English.

Listen -- and feel the rhythm and voice of the ancient Blackfoot peoples.

CREDITS

High Mountain singers
In the winter of 2001, members of various Blackfeet drum groups united their voices in song.  The groups to which they belonged included Little Corner, Heart Butte, Two Medicine, Percy and the Boys, Spotted Eagle, Siksika Ramblers and Black Lodge.  After performing at several pow wows, the group asked Blackfeet spiritual leader and elder George Kicking Woman for a name.  George named the group "High Mountain Singers" after a sacred mountain bordering Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
The Amskapi Pikuni (Southern Piegan) are part of the Blackfoot Confederacy.  In their travels, the High Mountain Singers strive to carry the musical tradition of the Blackfoot Pikuni to all those who listen.  Listen and feel the rhythm and voice of the ancient Blackfoot.
